Observers take note: Nick Cave's antipodean Western,
The Proposition, is the first film at SIFF to win the hearts of the SIFFBloggers as reported to date. Anybody else who caught the press screening, or makes the Friday show, please weigh on that initial entry's comments.

I haven't seen it yet, but I have a shelf full of Birthday Party and Bad Seeds albums, both of Cave's lyrics books and his novel, the vast portion of which I've derived much enjoyment from. So, I'd say the chances of me not liking The Proposition are bordering on nil.
ReplyDeleteif you want a real nick cave western, listen to "we came along this road" from the "no more shall we part" cd. the movie is a counterfeit. hold it up to the light and it's worthless. of course, i only saw the first 42 minutes, so can only comment on that portion. i plan to take another go at it during the varsity engagement. it could very well be that i am suffering from siff-itis and have been unfair to what is, perhaps, the masterpiece others claim it to be. but that hang-dog face of guy pearce reminded me too much of peter fonda's moping around in "the hired hand" and i couldnt take it.
ReplyDeleteNine out of ten dentists agree!
ReplyDeleteIf the opportunity presents itself, I will ask Harry Carey Jr. and Joseph McBride about Cave's film next month at the '06 SFSFF.
