I cut my teeth on his catalog and AI looks for all the world like a Kubrick film with a rather unfortunate Dream Works makeover. As far as qualifications, your own good judgement is all you need. If they were prerequisite I would sew my mouth shut, jam my hands in my pockets, and never utter another word.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4767719024051592524.post-52764173824682558322006-02-06T02:09:00.000-08:002006-02-06T02:09:00.000-08:00Hi David. Dick,* represented personal material for him, but so did "Eyes Wide Shut," an adaptation of an Arthur Schnitzler novella, and yet the critical reception couldn't have been less positive. While I don't think either film is a masterpiece, I think both were--& remain--terribly underrated.
* Interesting isn't it that Spielberg would adapt a Dick story, for "Minority Report," and that he would turn to "Eyes Wide Shut" star Tom Cruise. He scored a hit. It's almost as if he had evened the score for the two so-called misfires above. Ah, but "War of the Worlds"--now that's another story! :-)
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4767719024051592524.post-74146058047064083782006-02-05T17:32:00.000-08:002006-02-05T17:32:00.000-08:00Kathy,Don't you think anything of any substance fo...Kathy,
Don't you think anything of any substance found in AI should be attributed to Stanley Kubirick? I think his replacement did an effective job ruining what could have been a masterpiece.
David Jeffers
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
